Loving New London – 40 Years, Friday, February 8, 2019, 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Studio 33 Art & Frame Gallery presents a Valentine Exhibit of images of The Smith House, 138-140 Bank St., c.1840 Greek Revival-style, in the heart of the Waterfront Historic District. Once dominated by wharves and tall ships, now #24 on New London’s Heritage Trail is home to our gallery. The exhibit includes a wintery mix of landscape paintings by local artists, Robert J. Hauschild, Mark Patnode, Liz McGee, and others. Studio 33 Art & Frame Gallery will be featuring Handmade Origami Whale Valentines, created by local artist Karen Boehm for this celebration exhibit – “Loving New London – 40 Years” – and specifically – the historic building at 138-140 Bank St. Erected in 1840 as a residence, now home to our gallery. The Greek Revival-style house was built by Franklin Smith, a Whaling Captain and Partner in the Perkins & Smith Whaling Firm. Capt. Smith was accompanied by his wife on four of his voyages, his only daughter Chelsea was named after the ship on which she was born while at sea.
